Goblins & Geocachers

Another day, another cache. With team rolliradler and laguna.sam the geocaching adventure started in a nice are.

A goblin's treasure is not easy to hunt. But we found the nicely made stages quickly. A nice walk kept our mood up, and the strange weather couldn't stop us. Sun, rain, sun, wind, rain... the goblin must be nearby.
I'm pretty sure my "piping" at one of the stages made him run away for a while. As Laguna.sam asked herself what the animals in the forest are thinking about that sound ;) (see video below).

Then, to find the final, we had to decode a table with runes. It was quite clear. Laguna.sam, myself, and rolliradler had separate tables and we double-checked  each others. At the coordinates it was quite clear, we were wrong. After some time of search, Miss rolliradler used magic over the air and called for help. That worked. a part of the coordinates were wrong. Up until now, we have no clue what went wrong.
Inside the final, we found a wedding ring. No kidding. Man, someone has to be really upset to put this in a cache. But rolliradler had some silver for the goblin, too: A necklace to calm down the creature for finding its treasure :). I put a Geokret in. The Bonus-cache was found quickly. And was nicely made, too. There was some work invested in these caches. Kudos to the owner.

Then we went for another one in the area. An unusual cache, almost like a letterbox, but without a letterbox :). My old trekking compass was very useful. And after some confusion at the start, everything went perfectly fine. A nice way, we had a great talk, fun and laughter.
Then the final. We knew something bad happened. We read the last log before. Someone peed into the cache box and left a note. Yes, right. Idiots are everywhere.
At the location, no box was to be found. With my Android phone, we checked the listing and the owner took the box for maintenance, and was rightfully mad about this incident.
We made a photolog and hoping the owner will accept it.

It was a nice and funny cache-tour. And for the happy end, we all traded some coins and tb's. What could you want more? Great!

Here is an additional outtake from this geocaching tour :D

Geocaching Tour With Anniversary

On a nice day, laguna.sam and I set our sails for another geocaching tour. This time her 900th cache was to be found.

First we searched some traditionals. Really nice one. Especially the first we made (photo). Form time to time I saw traces of boars, which I come later to :)

We found them all very quickly and so we headed for the Letterbox, that we sorted out to be the 900th milestone for

It wasn't one of the easy types. And to do housework at Sunday was absurd. But we did. Laundry, cleaning, sorting, cooking... What this had to do with geocaching? It was the cache :) A nice round in the forest, where we met another group of cachers. We met us on some stages again.

While making the cache, we saw the creators of the traces I mentioned. Short before the another stage, about 5 big boars ran away to the left side along our path. Their big teeth made us worry a little. But what we saw about 30m in front of us, was even more concerning. A big group of uncountable boar piglets ran over the track in the opposite direction. No adult boar made a move towards us, so we waited a minute and then went to the stage, were the piglets ran into. The area was clear. Once again this made us think about all the horrible stories about boars, and now for the 3rd time, they feared us more than we did fear them.

Then the final was waiting, and laguna.sam was very pleased to see the box full of trackables. We traded some and drove back home to settle another great geocaching day.

At The Mega Event "DIR 2012"

Laguna.sam, and I attended the "DIR 2012" (Dosenfischen im Ruhrtal) in Schwerte/Germany.
That was my first Mega Event. Laguna.sam was at another one before.

After some hours of driving we arrived in our hotel, Hilton Dortmund, and quickly stored the luggage in our room and made us ready for the Event. After the short way to the location, we discovered a lot of TB's at the parking lot. Inside the building, there was tables full of Travelbugs and coins to trade and discover. Of course Laguna.sam stormed that place :)
Then there was another hall with dealers selling geocaching gear, all kind of trackables and merchandise. And of course the "Dosenfischer CD", which I come later to.

We went for a very quick cache, where we met some Geocachers. I traded a coin with them, and even received a Geokret! YAY! Back to the event, the Easter fire was in full bloom. Laguna.sam got hungry, so we went for the only negative thing there... the food. The food was not ready, we need to wait until the sausages were finished. Took a good 20 minutes. I'm glad I'm a vegan. Ah really? No food for me anywhere, and it was forbidden to eat at the event area. So we went outside when I got hungry and ate there the things I brought with me. Hygienically the food there was also a mess. But well, nothing is perfect.

But the rest of the event was great. What a fun at the fire and the "Stockbrot" :D. What a nice idea. When we went back into the building, we found out that the merchants hall was closed. Bummer. So we couldn't buy coins there and laguna.sam already asked for the event-coin before without luck. Sold out.
But then we saw Bryan from Geocaching.com. And he gave us his tags. So great. And it's awsome that officials from Geocaching.com attending so many Mega Events. It really shows the tight knot between the site and the community. Thanks so much, Bryan.

And so we waited for the highlight of the day. The concert of the "Dosenfischer". You really should visit their website. They have a German geocaching podcast and make music about geocaching. The music is really good, fun, and they also did great comedy between the songs. As a geocacher you do feel nice while listening.

After that it was about 23:00 already and we went for the hotel. Next day a short Geocaching round near Schwerte worked out great, and then we started the long drive back home.

Thanks to the organisation DieVonneRuhr, and the Dosenfischer.
There is only one thing left to do now. Go out and grab some containers :)
